Founded in 1953, Barksdale Theatre in Central Virginia presents national caliber productions of the great dramas, comedies and musicals -- past, present and future. With equal enthusiasm, we explore the classics, contemporary works and world premieres, always seeking to demonstrate the unique power of theatre to engage, enthrall, educate and inspire. Barksdale's Signature Season is staged at our intimate 207 seat theatre at The Shops at Willow Lawn, and at the historic Empire Theatre where we present our larger musicals. Willow Lawn Box Office Box Office Hours: Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm. On the weekends of performances, we will also be open Thursday & Friday from 5 - 8 pm, Saturday from 12 - 8 pm and Sunday from 12 - 2 pm. Please note: 1/2 hour before show time the phones may not be available due to a high number of walk in patrons. The Empire TheatreTheatre IV purchased these historic theatres in 1986; and with the help of community individuals, corporations and foundations, restored them in 1989-1991for a magnificent inaugural season. Barksdale will present Thoroughly Modern Millie on the Empire stage in the summer of 2009. Empire Box Office at (804) 344 - 8040 Hanover Tavern
Barksdale Theatre was originally founded at the Hanover Tavern in 1953. Over the years Pete and Nancy Kilgore and Muriel McAuley kept the theatre going while also continuing the endless task of restoring the Tavern. In 1990, the Tavern was sold to the Hanover Tavern Foundation. Today, Hanover Tavern stands fully restored, a historic site worthy of hosting both Barksdale performances and your most important events. Hanover Tavern Information:If you have purchased tickets to Hanover Tavern, they will be waiting for you at the Will Call window at the Tavern on the day of the performance. If you would prefer to pick up your Tavern tickets earlier, you can do so by stopping by our box office at Willow Lawn.
