3321 W Cary St Richmond VA 23221-3403 Phone: (804) 359-1151 Website Moshi Moshi (MOH-shee moh-SHEE) - Commonly used to answer the telephone in Japan, this expression has no real meaning, with the closest translation of the term being, "Hello?" when receiving a phone call. The term itself stems from a Japanese myth of the shape-shifting fox. The fox is a creature of supernatural power and mystery in Japanese tradition. They are said to change their form to that of a woman many times in order to seduce men for benevolent or malicious intent. The term "Moshi, moshi!" has no intrinsic meaning. It is a phrase supposedly foxes cannot pronounce. Therefore, if you say this over the phone and receive a reply the person you are talking with is not a fox in disguise. Welcome to Moshi Moshi, Carytown's premiere sushi and sake bar. Moshi Moshi offers traditional and contemporary Japanese cuisine in an unpretentious atmosphere. This Asian Fusion restaurant showcases an array of fresh Japanese selections, including an outstanding and creative sushi bar. The interior is upscale and inviting - the downstairs has a very dark, cozy, wood feel and a bar, tables and chairs and a cozy fireplace. The upstairs has a lighter dining room feel. If you enjoy fresh market sushi, you will love Moshi Moshi's vast and varied menu selections. Each item has its own stamp. The list is filled with original Moshi Moshi entries and salads run from seaweed to octopus; from Seared Salmon Mango to a bountiful seafood salad, with cooked shrimp, raw scallops, white tuna and salmon. And there are unique vegetarian dishes as well. Founded by Victor Srikusalanakul, owner and proprietor of Sumo San a popular sushi/sake bar in Shockoe Bottom, Moshi Moshi prides itself on original and inspiring sushi creations. The menu features an eclectic mix of sushi with modern twists, entrees, fancy Japanese appetizers and soups. The drink menu had a nice beer selection and an unrivaled world-class sake menu - 40 sake selections ranging in price from the teens to the thirties. Srikusalanakul likes the fun, neighborhood feel of Carytown. And that is what drives him. He really wants to makes sure that everyone enjoys the whole dining experience. Be sure to listen for his laugh - it's contagious and combined with the food, sake, beer and booze, it ensures that you'lll leave Moshi Moshi happier than when you arrived.
