menopause-musicalAs a woman who has yet to experience "the change," my only experience with menopause resulted in a mid-winter thermostat war. Insider's Review: Birmingham Royal Ballet's Swan Lake

Swan-LakeHarmony Between Athleticism and Art: Birmingham Royal Ballet's Swan Lake

Contributed by Diana Fakhouri

The Birmingham Royal Ballet's production of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov's Swan Lake at the 14th Annual Virginia Arts Festival was a delight for all ages. Elaborate costumes, decadent scenery, and a moving score performed by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra contributed to the ballet's captivating power. The company's portrayal of Odette and Prince Siegfried's ill-fated love enchanted the opening night audience at Chrysler Hall, utilizing opulent sets, costumes, and props to tell a story without words. Despite the nearly 3 hour running time, children in the theater were dazzled by the spectacle and I was impressed by their enduring focus on the piece.
