Christmas in Colonial Williamsburg

An Illuminating and Unforgettable Holiday

December 07, 2008, 4:45PM to 7:00PM

Every year, Colonial Williamsburg heralds the Christmas season with candles, fireworks and music during the Grand Illumination. The celebration begins at 4:45 p.m. on outdoor stages throughout the Historic Area. Colonial Williamsburg's Fifes and Drums provide 18th-century music as costumed performers present holiday entertainment found in Williamsburg two centuries ago.  At 5:45 p.m., the Fifes and Drums signal the beginning of the Grand Illumination. At 6:15 p.m., candles are lit in public buildings, shops and homes, and fireworks are launched at three Historic Area locations: the Governor's Palace, Magazine and Capitol. After the fireworks, the entertainment continues on the outdoor stages, until 7:30 p.m.

Posted by admin in Williamsburg , Family Vacation , Colonial Williamsburg , American History

America's second and third presidents take the stage of Colonial Williamsburg's Kimball Theatre for the eighth consecutive season of "Jefferson & Adams." The live performance is presented at the Kimball Theatre at 7:30 p.m. July 5-6.

First presented at the Kimball Theatre in 2001 as a costumed reading, the play has blossomed into a stage production featuring the original all-star cast of Colonial Williamsburg's renowned character historian Bill Barker as Jefferson, Colonial Williamsburg actress Abigail Schumann as Abigail Adams and the popular Sam Goodyear as John Adams.
