The Williamsburg Flower Show 2010

Now through March 20, 2010

What does spring hold for us this year?  That is the theme and the foundation for the "The Williamsburg Flower Show 2010" currently on display at Prince George Art & Frame.  The exhibit features nine artists doing their own version of floral, botanical, and still life paintings. Artists Apryl Altman, Betty Babb, Fran Jones, Juliet Kirby, Jan Ledbetter, Polly Nunn, Sharon Parker, Patricia Rapoport, Karen Schwartz, and Monti Sikes feature their finest pictures of flowers and floral paintings.

At this show you'll find great floral paintings including unbelievable miniatures by Betty Babb, bold colored acrylics by Monti Sikes, subtle contemporary watercolors by Patricia Rapoport, close-ups of flowers by Polly Nunn and many other paintings by local artists here in Williamsburg.

The Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center is proud to open 2010 with the esteemed Jerry Taliaferro's talent of his exhibit, Women of a New Tribe. Women of a New Tribe is a stunning national exhibition celebrating the physical and inner beauty of African American women presented in the 1930s to 1940s glamour, fine art black and white photography styles through the award winning lenses of Jerry Taliaferro. In an effort to honor Newport News African American women, 24 local women were picked to be an addition to his normal exhibit.

Gallery Hours: Tuesday through Saturday 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
Cost: $5 Adults/$3 Children
Tickets are available for purchase at the gallery on the day of admittance.

Go Red for a Cultural HEARTS Affair

The Downing Gross Cultural Center announced the First Lady of Song's Red Dress Gala, Saturday, February 27, 6:00pm, in honor of American Heart Month (February). This black-tie affair, welcomes guests for an evening of culture and entertainment while contributing to the fight against heart disease, which affected Newport News icons Ella Fitzgerald and Pearl Bailey.
