Posted by Keri Cushna in Norfolk , Live Performance , Arts

Contributed by Kerri Cushna

The 14th Annual Virginia Arts Festival will run this year from April 15th until May 30th. Among many of the amazing performances, I had the privilege of attending the Virginia International Tattoo, which is an exhibition of ceremonial military music consisting of marching bands, Scottish dancers, drill teams, and gymnasts, among the many other performers.

Don't miss the Virginia International Tattoo - April 30th - May 2nd in Norfolk

Posted by admin in Norfolk , Music , Concert , Arts

The Virginia International Tattoo honors a military tradition that dates back centuries, bringing military bands and performers from around the world to perform in Norfolk, a city with a proud military history. The Virginia International Tattoo has grown to become one of the largest such celebrations in the world, and has been designated a "Top Internationally Known Event" and one of the "Top 100 Events in North America" by the American Bus Association.
The Virginia International Tattoo will bring more than 850 performers from Canada, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States to Norfolk's Scope Arena in an awe-inspiring display of music and might, April 30, May 1, and May 2.

Check out this clip from last year's Tattoo. It's an amazing performace!

We've had a lot of questions...What is Pilobolus? Click here to read more.

pilobolus-vbThe Pilobolus Dance Theatre is in Washington, Connecticut. At the Theatre, the world's greatest dancers train, practice, and perfect the over 100 works in the Pilobolus repertoire. Every so often, after exacting preparation, Pilobolus embarks on a nation-or-world wide tour. This spring marks just such a tour of our country, and we, the Virginians or Virginia-visitors lucky enough to get tickets, have the great privilege of experiencing Pilobolus live in Virginia Beach at the Sandler Center on Saturday, May 15th at 8 PM and Sunday May 16th at 3:00 PM.

But what is Pilobolus, you may be asking?

Good question. Direct and to the point. Pilobolus is a now-legendary and world-renowned dance collective formed by Dartmouth dance students in 1971. From its inception, Pilobolus has been widely praised for its inventive, gymnastic, uniquely contortive choreography, and perhaps best known for its innovative partner work, the still-incredible many-membered shifting and interacting tableaus.
