Star of Wonder: Mystery of the Christmas Star

December 18, 2010

Experience the journey of the Magi around you in the Virginia Living Museum’s “Star of Wonder: Mystery of the Christmas Star.” Since 1965,  we have journeyed in the footsteps of the magi, seeking the identity of a mysterious star which foretold the coming of a king. Over the years, the scientific thinking has changed, archeology has revealed new clues about the lands in which these events took place, and our understanding of who the magi might have actually been has grown. Our best theory for what the sign of the wise men might have been has changed, too. Now, it is time for us main_piconce again to update our understanding. But this time, the change will be like no other.

This time, we will take you there like never before.

Join us in the Abbitt Planetarium for a truly immersive look at the journey of the magi, as we examine the latest clues and seek once more to understand the appearance of the Star of Bethlehem.

Empire Brass featuring Elisabeth von Trapp in "The Sound of Christmas"

Friday, December 17, 2010
7:30pm

The Empire Brass, whose leader and founder Rolf Smedvig is one of the leading solo trumpet players in the world today, has the largest discography of any brass quintet in history. The Sound of Christmas features vocals by Elisabeth Von Trapp, the acclaimed granddaughter of the Baron George Von Trapp and Maria, whose autobiography led to the astoundingly successful Rodgers & Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music. The Sound of Christmas gorgeously weaves the brass ensemble and Von Trapp together in wonderful patterns and arrays of everyone's favorite Christmas music. The highlight of the evening will be a wonderful medley from The Sound of Music, wherein the guitar solo Edelweiss flows into an extraordinary rendition of Stille Nacht.

Tickets: $23, $30, $36,$46
