I love Williamsburg. I have lived here for 20 years and while I have seen many, many changes during the time I've lived here I still love this place. Williamsburg has a lot more options than it used to and I think that is a good thing. I have been reading this blog for the past few months and have wanted to contribute many times. I especially felt compelled this weekend with this wonderful weather and the energy I felt in
Merchants Square yesterday. I try to visit Merchants Square every few weeks and never feel like staying away because of the tourists. Some of my favorite shops are there - The Silver Vault, Williams Sonoma, Binns, and the Candy Store (what can I say, my husband and kids have a sweet tooth!)
Lately, I've been reading about how the economy has affected CW but after yesterday I feel like things are turning a major corner. There is an excitement and energy back in Williamsburg. Just as nature is being reborn in the Spring time I think things are picking up around town, too. There are so many wonderful things going on in and around town and with local restaurants; now is the best time to travel to Williamsburg. The flowers are in bloom, the weather is warming up and not yet stifling hot, some stores have nice sales going on and restaurants are offering good dining deals.
Next weekend is the very popular Art on the Square show, there are always shows and historic buildings to see in CW (Colonial Williamsburg), you can pick up lunch from the Cheese Shop and picnic in front of the Governor's Palace and that's just the Colonial area. You can go shopping at the Prime Outlets, visit Busch Gardens with the family, go antiquing at the Williamsburg Antique Mall or the various antique stores down Route 60. There really are so many options! As far as dining recommendations or suggestions I like A Chef's Kitchen, Le Yaca, Fat Canary (be aware this place is VERY pricey), Aromas and Center Street Grill (delicious raw bar). Make sure you make reservations in advance for these places because they fill up very quickly.
Visit Williamsburg in the Spring. Enjoy the very wonderful place that me and my family call home. It's beautiful, cultural, peaceful and you'll have a wonderful time!
