The Wicked Buzz

Posted by admin in Williamsburg , Virginia Beach , Nightlife , Live Performance , Family Fun , Cool News

The mega Broadway hit, Wicked is coming to the Hampton Roads area! Wicked will bring a little Broadway excitement to the area especially since it's the first time it's been scheduled to tour here.

If you aren't familiar with Wicked it is a very unique spin on an old and well-known classic. The production is based on the backstory of the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz and tells the story of what happened in the Land of Oz before Dorothy dropped in...literally. The story includes several references to well-known scenes and dialogue you will be sure to recognize.  Here is the ‘Wicked' teaser:  Long before Dorothy arrived in Munchkinland, two girls met in Oz; one with green skin who is sorely misunderstood and the other, a very beautiful and popular blonde. How the two girls grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes this one of the most creative musicals of its time.

What is a star party?

Posted by admin in Williamsburg , Virginia Beach , Outdoors , Museum Exhibits , Family Fun , Cool News

Recently, I have become really interested with all things celestial.  I suppose it all started about a month ago.  My wife and I went out for a walk after a late dinner.  It was one of those unusually mild December nights and it was so clear outside.  There wasn't a cloud in the sky.  The sky was illuminated with brilliant, twinkling stars.  Some were light while others were significantly brighter.  I later found out those stars were actually the planets Jupiter and Venus putting on quite a nice show in the evening sky.

I read in a previous blog posting about the planetarium shows at the Virginia Living Museum so I visited the Christmas Star show and the Virginia Skies show and have been fascinated ever since.  During January, there are more stars of the first magnitude (which means the brightest stars) in the sky than at any other times during the year.  So, the first few weeks of this month offer a great opportunity to get outside and observe the night sky and see a variety of really bright stars and the constellations associated with them.

No One Should Have to Drink Bad Coffee

Posted by admin in Virginia Beach , Coupons , Cool News

No one should have to drink bad coffee and that goes double time for our brave service men and women around the world. That's why Bad Ass Coffee has started the Cup O' Joe program.  This is a super cool program where Bad Ass Coffee matches up soldiers to willing donors (like you and me) from all around the world who want to purchase a bag of coffee for soldiers overseas.  Here are some of the Cup O'Joe details:
* $11.95 is the retail price for a 16oz bag of the Hawaiian Blend Coffee.

* Bad Ass Coffee Company will cover ALL additional costs for processing and shipping your donation to the soldier.

* The soldier that is matched up with your donation is stationed overseas and will receive the coffee of their choice via US Post Office.

* Each registered soldier will receive one bag of coffee.
As of November 2008, Bad Ass Coffee, with the help of private and corporate donors, has shipped over 6000 bags of coffee to soldiers around the world! And there are hundreds of registered soldiers still waiting.  So, sign up today and give something back.  Brighten up a soldier's day with a great cup of joe.

Click HERE to check out some of the pictures of the soldiers who have received Bad Ass coffee and read their thankful and appreciative letters.
