Two Chopsticks Up for Williamsburg Restaurant

Posted by admin in Williamsburg , Dining

On the advice of several long-time Williamsburg residents I decided to try Peking Mongolian & Japanese Restaurant. I'm not a big fan of buffet style restaurants but I've heard too many good things from friends to write this off.

My family and I went for lunch on Saturday afternoon and found the restaurant quite busy even though it was well into the afternoon. Fortunately for us, the restaurant is very large and we were able to be seated right away.

Hot Doggin' It in Williamsburg

Posted by admin in Williamsburg , Dining

A couple of friends and I decided to go looking for the tastiest hot dog in Williamsburg. Selecting the competitors was easy. Williamsburg is home to two frankfurter purveyors; Retro's Good Eats (Retro's), who boast that they have the "Best Hot Dog in Town," and Gus's Hot Dog King (Gus's). So we have the best hot dog in town vs. the hot dog king... seems like a good match up.

First up, Retro's. Retro's is a fun diner-ish restaurant located down on Williamsburg's Prince George Street, one block over from Merchant Square. Since, we're here to discuss hot dogs I won't go into detail about Retro's menu or the decor, but they're both nice and suitable for family dining.

California Tortilla Scoop: Free Taco Coupon

Posted by admin in Williamsburg , Random Tip , Discounts , Dining , Coupons

Free Taco Coupon

California Tortilla is giving everyone who votes on Election Day a free taco coupon.  Just go on Tuesday, November 4th, and the spunky cashier will give a coupon to anyone of voting age who comes in wearing an 'I VOTED' sticker.

For those of you who don't know California Tortilla is a casual-quick service restaurant specializing in fresh California Mexican style food.  Their menu includes: classic & specialty burritos, fajitas, quesadillas, fresh salads & tacos and a variety of super spicy sauces (if you'd adventurous enough to try any of them.)  The food is prepared fresh everyday, never frozen.

California Tortilla is in New Town (next to the New Town Movie Theatre.)

Tapas and Tunes

Tapas & Tunes at the Williamsburg Lodge

Saturdays, 5-9 p.m.

Visit the lobby lounge in the Williamsburg Lodge and enjoy light jazz music and delicious wine and tapas.  The tapas menu reflect cuisines from around the world and are served in the traditional Spanish way, on small plates.  The various tapas selections include shrimp and chorizo quesadillas, flash-seared beef brochettes and traditional hummus with cucumber-tomato relish.  Enjoy some of the bartenders' drinks as they are especially good after a long day of touring.

One of my favorite restaurants in Virginia Beach

Posted by admin in Virginia Beach , Dining

Visit Rockafeller's Restaurant on Rudee Inlet - one of my favorite restaurants in Virginia Beach.  It is a casual establishment with a great view and food to match.  I haven't had anything on the menu I didn't like!

I found this video on YouTube which gives you a good feel for the place.

Celebrate Halloween with a Plantation Ghost Tour

October 4, 11, 18, 24 & 25, 2008 (5pm-9 pm)

James River Plantation Progressive Ghost Feast Tour & Dinner

Looking for a unique and fun way to spend a Saturday night in October?  There is no better time to celebrate the upcoming Halloween season than with a bonafide ghost tour!

Visit Piney Grove at Southall's Plantation located in Williamsburg's James River Plantation Country and experience an evening of spirited tale telling, graveside stories, garden exploration and a delicious candlelight dinner.  This plantation has no shortage of stories to draw from as this is replete with history dating back to the Chickahominy Indians who resided here.  You will visit the historic buildings Piney Grove - 1790, Ashland -1835, Ladysmith - 1857 and Duck Church - 1917.  You will hear the Legend of Rippons Run, visit the Harwood graveyard, visit the Southall slave graves and hear about the Beechwood Tragedy.
