"Nutzy has been one of the most identifiable members of the Flying Squirrels organization," said Vice President & COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "From the moment we introduced him in February, he was an instant hit with adults and kids alike. As we prepare for our second season in Richmond, we want to build Nutzy's celebrity status and making him the centerpiece of our branding will help accomplish that."

What's Going on in December at The Virginia Living Museum????

Through Jan. 2, 2011 “Earth from Space” Smithsonian poster exhibit

View rare satellite images in “Earth from Space,” a Smithsonian poster exhibit, at the Virginia Living Museum. See large color reproductions of images captured by high-tech satellites constantly circling the globe, recording conditions and events that are nearly impossible to document on the planet’s surface. A collaboration with geographer and curator Andrew Johnston at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum’s Center for Earth and Planetary Studies, the traveling exhibit won a 2007 U.S. Geological Survey award. Rare views of events such as dust storms, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, and hurricanes are accompanied by text that explains how satellite imagery is gathered and used to explore the Earth. Documenting environmental cycles, natural disasters, and man-made ecological effects, satellite images provide clues about the dynamic nature of our planet. Included in museum admission.

Downtown Hampton Ice Skating is Open for the Season!

Posted by admin in Newport News , Ice Skating , Holiday Events , Hampton , Family Fun , Children's Activities

iceskate_icerink5.jpgLooking for a winteresque family outing?

We went with our neighbors to Downtown Hampton on Ice! sponsored by the Virginia Air & Space Center and had a nice afternoon. It's an enormous outdoor rink - at least 5,000 square feet covered by a large tent to protect it from the elements. Skate admission is only $6 per person. You can bring your own ice skates or rent their skates for and additional $2.

The skating sessions are about 2 hours and if you'd rather watch (and stay warm) there's a heated, covered seating area next to the ice rink.  Click here for more information.
