Put those pedals to work - Biking the Historic Triangle

Posted by admin in Williamsburg , Outdoors , Family Vacation , Family Fun

I'm not what you would consider a hard core biker but I do enjoy biking somewhat regularly.  This past summer I decided to buy a new bike and retire the much used (and abused) bike from college.  Naturally I wanted to put my fancy new wheels to the test so I decided to bike the Colonial Parkway.

The Colonial Parkway is a 23-mile scenic three-lane highway which connects Yorktown, Williamsburg and Jamestown. (These three are also known as the Historic Triangle.)  For this trip I opted to go towards Yorktown as I biked to Jamestown not long ago.

Apples ripe for the picking at Bush Neck Farm

Posted by admin in Williamsburg , Outdoors , Family Fun

I visited Bush Neck Farm this past weekend with the family and we had a wonderful time.  We picked a fresh bushel of apples and a perfect pumpkin - soon to be jack-o-lantern for our front porch.  I bought enough apples to make a pie and some muffins which I can't wait to eat this weekend.

The best time to go is NOW as the apples are very ripe.  And we also learned something very important - some of the best apples are on the ground.  In addition to apples and pumpkins you can pick blueberries, asparagus, sweet corn and peaches.  There is also a picnic area in the apple orchard where you can lunch.

Italian Festival Wrap Up

Posted by admin in Wineries , Williamsburg , Road Trip Worthy , Live Performance , Festivals , Family Fun , Art

The 6th annual Italian Festival hosted by the Colonial Italian American Organization was held at Walsingham Academy this past weekend. As you might expect, there was a great selection of Italian foods from many local Williamsburg restaurants including Florimonte's Deli & Fine Foods and Philadelphia Pretzels.

There were also several exhibitors displaying various arts and crafts.
