DON LANCASTER FISHING CLINIC

Kids can learn the basics of fishing with area fishing expert Don Lancaster on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Virginia Living Museum, Newport News.

Lancaster, whose Fishing Tidewater radio program can be heard every Saturday morning on WHKT Radio 1650AM, will present a program on “The ABCs of Fishing” on Nov. 6 from 1-3:30 p.m.

Learn about fresh water fish, poles, rods, reels, hooks, bait and lures, line (mono and braid), sinkers (split, shot, barrel), terminal tackle (snaps, snap swivels), water food chain and conservation.

Lancaster, who operated the Chickahominy River Bass and Crappie Guide Service for 12 years, also writes monthly fishing articles and conducts fresh water fishing classes and saltwater fishing seminars around Hampton Roads, in addition to his weekly radio show.

  • Basketball, Horseshoes, Volley Ball, Softball, Swimming
  • Horseback Riding - Enjoy a trail ride along the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
  • Hayrides - Enjoy a tractor pulled hayride through the orchards.
  • Fishing - The Rose River and Robinson River are state stocked with Rainbow Trout and Brook Trout. The Hughes River is also stocked, it is located about 8 miles north of Syria. A fish-n-pay pond, located on the Graves Mountain property, is open and stocked with trout (Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, and Golden Trout). Other ponds on the lodge property are available to catch and release. The ponds are stocked with bass and bream. Bring your own pole and try your luck!
  • Hiking - Many trails for hiking begin a short distance from the lodge. A short nature trail begins at the end of the road from Ridgecrest motel. If you care to visit White Oak Canyon, you can follow a lovely trail to the seven waterfalls. Rock climbing is also near by on Old Rag Mountain. Both are a short drive from the Lodge
  • Rock Hunting - You may find some interesting unusual stones. This range is considered one of the oldest ranges in the world. Walk along the Rose River an try to find a piece of unakite, the official rock of Madison County, if you can't find a piece of unakite, there are some for sale in the Gift Shop and our Packing Shed.
  • Gift Shop -  Clothing, jewelry, toys and a variety of other items are found for friends and family.

Ladies Only Charity Billfish Tournament 
August 14 - 15, 2010

All proceeds go directly to Eastern Virginia Medical School for Breast Cancer Research.

About the Tournament

Women of all levels of fishing expertise are invited to participate in the 8th Annual CBWC sponsored tournament. WWF-2009-020Registration and the Captains Meeting are on Saturday night, August 14th with fishing on Sunday the 15th and the Awards Party Sunday evening. This year all festivities occur under the VBBT tent at the Southside of Rudee Inlet. Wine, Women and Fishing has donated more than $120,000 to the EVMS Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
