Learn about the secret lives of forest animals as you make your own paper food chain and match animals with their scat. Make a clay imprint of various animal tracks to keep and get an up-close look at live owls!

Have you ever been to Waterside in downtown Norfolk and wondered about what is on the other side of the river...the Elizabeth River, that is? Well I have just the adventure for you. There's a paddle wheel ferry that runs from Waterside, just behind the Waterside Mall on High Street in Norfolk to the Visitor Information Center at 6 Crawford Parkway in Portsmouth. It's a pedestrain ferry (no cars allowed) but you can bring your bicycle if you like. It only take about 15 minutes to cross the river, but it is 15 minutes of relaxation and the views are wonderful. The ferry dates back to the 1636 when a skiff was rowed across the river. The ferry form of transportation has had many transformation over the years to the ferry they use today.

Groundhog Night at the Virginia Living Museum

Will we have six more weeks of winter or is spring around the corner? One way or the other, we're going to celebrate with a special evening filled with winter and spring activities, including a visit from the Museum's whistle pig - a.k.a. the groundhog. Enjoy treats, crafts, children's activities, face painting with Kolonial Klowns, delightful planetarium programs and discover more about the tradition of the groundhog.

Held in the Wason Education Center.

Live Sky/Sky Watch at the Science Museum of Virginia

Enjoy a complimentary lecture about stellar evolution in the winter sky from our host astronomer. Afterwards, join members of the Richmond Astronomical Society on the museum's front lawn as they share their powerful telescopes for a look at the night sky.
