Rose & Crown Restaurant Review

RoseCRLast Sunday my wife and I went to the Rose and Crown Tavern after reading about it in the Insider's Passport. This place is a jewel. Thank you Insider's Passport for introducing it to this Williamsburg reader. We both loved it! The ambiance, the staff, the food were all great. It's also a gorgeous time to visit. The colorful trees around the restaurant make for a beautiful backdrop. Sunday brunch was delicious - we can't wait to go back.

The Best BBQ in Williamsburg, Virginia - A Reader's Review

It's No Secret that Hog Wild Smokehouse has the Best BBQ in Town

We stopped at the Hog Wild Smokehouse on the way to take my daughter to William & Mary for her first year of college. My daughter loves BBQ and I had read several positive reviews online at Insider's Passport, so we decided to give it a try. I have to admit, my husband was a little concerned about driving so far from the highway exit, but we were all feeling adventurous. We were relieved when we arrived - the outside was nice, the parking easy and the staff is SUPER friendly. My daughter ordered the pulled pork sandwich, I had the beef brisket (which was delicious), and my husband had the pulled pork dinner. All the dinners had a choice of either house salad or soup and one side. The sides included barbecue beans, collard greens, baked apples, fries, etc.  Great BBQ.  Great dining experience.  It gets a triple thumbs up from this family.  GO TRIBE!

Enjoy the Southern tradition of BBQ and have your own love affair at the best barbecue place in town - Hog Wild Smokehouse!

Euphoria at One Fish - Two Fish: A Dining Experience Reviewed

Posted by R.A.Henriquez in Virginia Beach , Restaurant Review , Reader's Review , Dining

Watching the sunset on the Lynnhaven Bay, little did I know the flavorful euphoria I was about to experience as I sat for dinner at One Fish - Two Fish in Virginia Beach. Many restaurants have pages upon pages of choices of great choices, making it hard to decide what to eat. But choosing from a menu with 9 items with nothing but the best choices is even harder. Should I go with the fresh catch of the day, which you can choose from three, or the seared ahi with ponzu sauce and cucumber salad? Man, but the grilled bar-b-que salmon sounds interesting. Let's see here, landlover dishes. Frenched veal rib chop, 14 oz. ribeye, I know you're supposed to eat seafood at a seafood restaurant, but how can I pass up the beef tenderloins with caramelized fennel? Wait a minute, crispy fried parmesan tilapia!

Beyond the Delis in Williamsburg

specialsSure, the downtown Dellies will always have a top spot on any W&M student’s list of favorite bars—after all, where would we be without Corona Night at Paul’s or Mug Night at the Leafe? But contrary to popular belief, those aren’t the only places in the ‘Burg with great drink specials and delicious cocktails.

The Movie Tavern Experience

Contributed by Robert Vining

I confess that I am a Movie Tavern addict.  I'm a big fan of the Eat Dinner and Drink Beer Experience While Watching the Latest Summer Blockbuster in 3-D. I'd like to give a big sloppy kiss to the person who came up with this idea. Food, drink and movie...Brilliant in its simplicity!

Relax, kick back and enjoy your stay in Virginia Beach at Barclay Cottage Bed and Breakfast

Relax, kick back and enjoy your stay in Virginia Beach at Barclay Cottage Bed and Breakfast

barclay-exteriorThis B&B really went beyond any expectation. My boyfriend and I decided to go down to Virginia Beach for the Virginia is for Lovers 14K over Valentine's Day and we stayed here. First, we were late arriving. Really late. The owner called us while we were driving down to make sure everything was okay. He knew we had to come through heavy traffic. It was a polite and unexpected thing. When we finally made it down the owner was great about suggesting places to grab a bite to eat. We had to get up early the next day to go to the race and told the owner we were going to miss breakfast. He was kind enough to put together some to-go breakfasts with muffins and bananas so we still had some energy for the race. The race was awesome, by the way, and I would recommend it to anybody. When we got back to the B&B they asked if we wanted a late breakfast, which I ate and it was delicious. The owner even kept an eye out for the race results and printed them out when they were made available. We almost placed in the race (came in fourth), and the owners gifted us with two champagne glasses for our racing efforts! It was very kind and made a lasting impression. Finally, when my boyfriend left a computer accessory in the room the owners called to let us know they had found it and then mailed it to us promptly. They treated us like family and took care of us. We plan on going back for the next Virginia Beach race, and maybe just for a vacation too!
