The Virginia Air & Space Center offered a CSI: Forensics Lab Science Camp, July 19 - July 23, for kids interested in discovering their detective skills. The camp gave budding science sleuths the opportunity to experience what goes on behind the scenes in a CSI laboratory. Some of the activities included: solving mock crimes, catching crooks, investigating the scene of a crime, examining handwritten and typewritten documents and learning how to spot forgeries.
The CSI: Forensics Lab Science Camp offered hands-on activities to help make learning fun. A favorite of the week was Splat Matter, an interactive science demonstration where campers dropped a variety of fruits on a white surface to identify the pattern and force that was created. The kids also had some hands-on experience at Old Point National Bank where they are currently excavating artifacts. A Forensic Anthropologist from the James River Institute spoke about digging up evidence, how to identify different periods of time and the importance of history.
