Here is your visitor's guide to the Vans & Monster Energy present the 48th Annual Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships.  The Coastal Edge ECSC is a really a celebration of beach lifestyle and the sports, sights, sounds and people that live in or visit our seaside community. It is America's oldest surfing competition and second oldest in the world. Here's the skinny on how to act like you've been there before.

•Hat/head cover
•Sunglasses
•Bag/tote/carry-all

Big Changes in 2010 East Coast Surfing Championships

Posted by admin in Virginia Beach , Surfing , Sports/Athletics

The 48th Annual East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC) planned for this coming August at the Virginia Beach oceanfront will be the largest and most ambitious in the event’s history. Big changes are ahead for the 2010 ECSC, beginning with a new name, the addition of exciting new sport attractions, and the expansion to five days of activities.

“Vans and Monster Energy present the Coastal Edge ECSC” — the event’s new official title – will operate from Wednesday, Aug. 25 through Sunday, Aug. 29, and will feature motocross stunt performances and “tow-at” trick style surfing demonstrations in addition to Pro/Am surfing and skate exhibitions. Several tactical exhibitions by US military special forces units are also scheduled.

Surfing for Beginners: Where to Go, Where to Shop

17thstreetpicThough there might not be 20-foot pipelines or perfect tubes in Virginia Beach, there's still plenty surfing to be had. And you don't have to wait until tropical depressions near the coast to enjoy the thrills, though I would ward against taking any such risk. If you're a beginner, you might want to learn the basics first, but what do you need? Where do you go?
