After over 300 years as a university, it's not surprising that William and Mary has racked up more than a few unique traditions that help to turn incoming students into a Tribe. Here are a few of the school's favorites:
Opening Convocation: This is how students at William and Mary welcome the incoming freshmen class. Freshmen dress up and listen to a special guest speaker on the campus side of the Wren building. Then, they line up, cross through the building, and are greeted by cheers and high fives from a courtyard full of upperclassmen. After everything calms down, freshmen get to mingle over a picnic dinner and live music.
Yule Log: This tradition happens right around the holiday season. Students gather in the Wren courtyard to hear holiday music and-most importantly-hear President Reveley read "Twas the Night before Finals" or How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

The Daily Grind - A Tribe Institution in Williamsburg
Contributed by Megan Keeling
Located in the heart of William and Mary's campus, The Daily Grind has been a Tribe institution for years. The Grind serves up an impressive variety of coffee and espresso drinks-anything from a classic Cup-o-Joe to one of their specialty candy-flavored frappes. They also offer an extensive tea menu, with teas from all over the world in a number of different flavors and strengths. If you're new to tea drinking (like me), the baristas are great at helping you find a kind you'll love.
They also serve breakfast sandwiches and homemade pastries-my personal favorite is their blueberry muffins. During the school year, the Grind is packed with students and faculty, since it's the perfect place to finish a paper, meet with a study group, or just relax with friends. Summer is definitely less crowded, which means fewer lines and less waiting for a good table to open up. This makes it the perfect time to order your favorite iced drink, grab a table outside, and enjoy the last days of summer tranquility.

cents and tell us all about it.
