On Veterans Day we pause as a nation to reflect on the tremendous contributions and sacrifices of our brave men and women in uniform. This year, bring the whole family out to celebrate Veterans Day at The Virginia War Museum's annual ceremony, held at 11:00 a.m. at the Victory Arch, 25th Street & West Avenue in downtown Newport News. After the ceremony, the public is invited learn about America’s rich military heritage at the Virginia War Museum.

The museum displays outstanding collections of personal artifacts, weapons, vehicles, uniforms, posters and much more which trace the development of the U.S. military from 1775 through the present. See a section of the Berlin Wall and a portion of the outer wall from Dachau Concentration Camp. Galleries include Women at War and Marches Toward Freedom, exploring the roles of women and African-Americans in the military and Visions of War, the museum's outstanding propaganda poster collection. Shop for unique gifts in the Duffle Bag gift shop. Special events and evening programs are held year-round. Parking is free.

Come honor and remember all veterans who have served our Nation at Virginia War Memorial's FREE, family friendly ceremony with free parking. Co-hosted with the 11th District American Legion

virginia-war-memorial-logoThe Virginia War Memorial's Shrine of Memory is a soaring tribute to the service and sacrifice of Virginia veterans and citizens in time of war. The Memorial was built to honor all veterans and particularly those Virginians killed in world War II, Korea, Vietnam, and Persian Gulf. The Memorial's primary features are a Shrine of Memory, with more than 11,600 names of Virginia veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in war engraved on its walls, the majestic statue Memory, the Torch of Liberty eternal flame, a Reflecting Pool, Flag Court, Rose Gardens, a Visitors Center, Memories of War artifact displays and Memorial Shop.

Veterans Day Parade in Colonial Williamsburg - November 11, 2010

Colonial Williamsburg honors America's veterans with a parade down thmemorialday1e Duke of Gloucester Street on Thursday, November 11, observed nationally as Veterans Day. The parade will process to the green behind the Courthouse of 1770 and a public ceremony to honor America's veterans will take place with militia and cannon crew firing volleys in honor of those who have served in America's military forces.

Colonial Williamsburg's Fifes and Drums will perform tunes as a salute to the veterans. Speakers from the past and present will add their tribute to the day's ceremony. All veterans are invited to participate. For information, call toll-free 1-800-HISTORY.
