Hollywood Cemetery is much more than just a cemetery.  It is a Richmond landmark, rich in history and landscape.  It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Being a history major I have visited Hollywood cemetery on numerous occasions, and traveled by foot, by car and by bicycle.  It is full of sprawling hills and stunning views that wind through 135 acres.  (Note to reader:  If you decide to bike be prepared for some serious legwork.  Going down the hills is a breeze but going up is another story.  You'll get quite a work out biking in Hollywood). 

Either way you visit you're sure to enjoy the scenary and the beauty of the James River, which Hollywood overlooks.  Hollywood cemetery opened in 1849 and earned its name from the Holly trees that run throughout the property.  However, it has become synonymous with the many famous people whose final resting this has become.  Two American presidents, six Virginia governors, two Supreme Court justices, twenty-two Confederate generals, and thousands of Confederate soldiers are buried here.  

If you have never been this is a wonderful and beautiful place to visit.
