Celebrate History - Meet the Tuskegee Airmen at the Virginia War Museum

tuskegeeThe Tuskegee Airmen were the first African American military aviators in the United States armed forces. They fought in World War II as the 332nd Fighter Group of the US Army Air Corps. The term "Tuskegee Airmen" refers to all who were involved in the Army Air Corps program to train African Americans to fly and maintain combat aircraft, incuding pilots, navigators, bombardiers, maintenance and support staff, instructors, and all the personnel who kept the planes in the air.

Meet the men of the US Army Air Corps who took to the skies while fighting the Axis Powers abroad and segregation at home. Members of the Tuskegee Airmen will be available to discuss artifacts on display from noon to 1:00pm. From 1:00pm to 3:00pm, there will be a viewing of the movie The Tuskegee Airmen. After the movie, guest speakers will relate their experiences while serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
