Celebrate National Watermelon Day
Monday, 03 August 2009 00:00
watermelonSummer is such a fun season, there is no school, no homework, no rising with the sun, no crazy teachers and administrators, no obligations...it's great! Parents can enjoy their kids' company, kids can go out with their friends, and the college crowd can catch up on a year's worth of sleep.

I enjoy classic summer experiences. Every 4th of July, my family makes homemade ice cream. We indulge in this delicious treat all summer. I also love running through the sprinkler with my dog, spending time in my garden amongst the weeds and bumble bees and most of all, I love watermelon...with the seeds, of course. I'm not sure why scientists ever invented watermelons without seeds, because, in my opinion, the seeds are the best part. Everyone knows that a seed-spitting competition is a necessity to any summer barbeque.

Today, Monday, August 3  is National Watermelon Day. Take time to appreciate this large, wonderful fruit by eating some! True lovers of watermelon should invite some friends over for a cookout and the most glorious of barbeque competitions.
