Celebrate the God of Wine

In classical mythology, Bacchus (as he was known to the Romans) or Dionysus (to the Greeks) is the god of wine and the inspirer of ritual madness and ecstasy.  His “mission” was to mingle musical instruments and to bring an end to care and worry.  In ancient Rome, Bacchus’ passionate impulses, as well as his association with wine and revelry, were celebrated at secret festivals called Bacchanalia.  The celebrations continue to this day.  In honor of continuing this fun tradition visit the Bacchus Wine and Food Festival at the Virginia Living Museum this Thursday, February 6th from 7-10PM.  Taste fine wines from around the world and fabulous food selections prepared by area restaurants. Also enjoy live entertainment and a silent auction.

The evening features tastings of 40 wines from nine different countries, many new wines that are sure to become favorites. Participating restaurants include: Berret's, Black Angus, Fin, FruitFlowers, Green Leafe Catering, Harbor Espresso Café, Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon, Riverwalk Restaurant, Schlesinger's, Slightly Up The Creek, Thai Erawan, Trader Joe's, Tsunami Sushi, Wild Side Cafe.

Meet Debra Gordon, author of “Wine on Tuesdays: Be A Serious Wine Drinker Without Taking Wine too Seriously!”

Enjoy live music throughout the evening. Chris Basford performs on classical guitar. Joe Maniscalco offers a Two Can Jam sound, while Made from Scratch Bluegrass Band plays an eclectic mix of bluegrass, newgrass and folk music.Cost: $50 in advance, $60 at the door. Ages 21 and above only.  Purchase tickets early, this event sells out every year.
