In classical mythology, Bacchus (as he was known to the Romans) or Dionysus (to the Greeks) is the god of wine and the inspirer of ritual madness and ecstasy. His “mission” was to mingle musical instruments and to bring an end to care and worry. In ancient Rome, Bacchus’ passionate impulses, as well as his association with wine and revelry, were celebrated at secret festivals called Bacchanalia. The celebrations continue to this day. In honor of continuing this fun tradition visit the Bacchus Wine and Food Festival at the Virginia Living Museum this Thursday, February 6th from 7-10PM. Taste fine wines from around the world and fabulous food selections prepared by area restaurants. Also enjoy live entertainment and a silent auction.
