Chamber Music Festival ▪ September 11 ▪ 3pm ▪September 22 ▪ 8pm ▪ $22/$18 On Sale Now The Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival opens at the Paramount Theater with a program that includes a Haydn string quartet, a new piece for clarinet and strings by David Bruce ("Gumboots"), and Max Bruch's String Octet in B-flat major. The concert features several outstanding musicians, including Matthew Hunt, the superb English clarinetist making his return to Charlottesville, as well as members from the string quartet Brooklyn Rider, the Enso String Quartet, the Metropolitan Museum Artists in Concert, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. On September 22nd, the fourth concert of the Festival features a highly diverse range of composers, including André Previn, Ernest Chausson, Erik Satie, Gabriel Fauré, and the Grammy-winning American composer, Joan Tower. Making a special appearance will be internationally renowned soprano, Roberta Alexander, singing several songs by Bernstein, Previn, Barber and Ives. Originally born in Lynchburg, Virginia, but now residing in Amsterdam, Ms. Alexander has sung in opera houses all over the world, including the Houston Grand Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, and Glyndebourne. The Comedy of Errors ▪ March 1 Dominic Cooke, Artistic Director of The Royal Court, will make his National Theatre debut with Shakespeare's THE COMEDY OF ERRORS, opening in the Olivier in November.
