4th of July Fireworks in Virginia Beach

Contributed by Kerri Cushna

fireworks-vbWhere are you planning to spend your 4th of July? On the beach? Watching fireworks on television? Wait, do they even do that here in Virginia?

Well... the next best thing to watching fireworks on television is going to see them live. If you're looking for a spot to camp out and catch a fabulous lights display, you have a few options. You can check out July 4th at Mount Trashmore Park or you can venture down the boardwalk on the beach. Whichever you choose, you are in for a real treat. Or, you could do both.

Mount Trashmore's celebration is a giant festival to celebrate America's birthday and salute the Military with live mainstage musical entertainment, children's activities, and festival foods, with a fantastic fireworks display as a night ender. Admission is free and there is onsite parking for a small fee. The whole event begins at 4 pm and is expected to end around 10pm. Giving you enough time to head over to the beach to check out the display on the beach.

So, if you are interested in traveling in that direction, or are staying on the beach, you should check out the fireworks on the boardwalk. What could be more beautiful than fireworks over the ocean? Fireworks will be launched from a barge off 20th Street, giving everyone a great view of the lights from anywhere on the boardwalk. Also, the stages at 17th, 24th and 31st Streets will be busy with entertainment such as patriotic songs, Broadway tunes, movie themes and folk music, all that will segue into an amazing fireworks show.

Virginia Beach knows how to kick off the summer season with Independence Day's Stars and Stripes explosion (the 4th of July fireworks) and continuing throughout the summer until Labor Day. All fireworks displays are free to watch, and there is onsite parking for a fee.

No matter what your plans are for this Independence Day, you're guaranteed to have a great time. Hey, maybe I'll see you there!
