Friday evenings are HOT at the Fountain in TowneBank Fountain Park!

Norfolk's Largest Outdoor Lifestyle Friday Party is a great place to stop out and join up with friends, have a drink, hear some music, grab a bite and get the weekend started!

Dates:  Friday, September 3, 10, 17, & 24, 5pm - 9pm

Band Schedule for September:

September 3; The New Familiars, 5:30pm: From the foothills of Appalachia a new musical combo has appeared; grown from seeds of the folk, blues, and bluegrass found abundant in the Carolinas, yet shaped by the undeniable power of rock and roll. Known as The New Familiars, these five gentlemen combine an amazing passion for harmony with multi-instrumental talent and unusual storytelling abilities. Currently touring in support of their six-song EP 'The Storm' and a recently released 7" vinyl (featuring their original tune 'Mill's River' with a re-interpretation of Smokey Robinson's classic 'My Girl'), they've taken the east coast music scene by force. Drawing raucous club crowds from Boston to Tuscaloosa while shining bright on the festival circuit grace of a fresh and distinct new sound, the buzz about the band is palpable and growing. While describing their songwriting as "folk music from the core", the band has constantly stretched the boundaries of 'genre labels'. Since their debut in late 2006, they've fused the multitudes of musical influences that each member brings to the table onto a foundation built upon traditional instruments such as resonator guitar, mandolin, banjo and harmonica. Yet glimpses of new material hint towards even broader musical horizons while still maintaining - and even reinforcing - the unique sound that has so defined the band. All this, most especially when combined with their intense live performances, serve as signs pointing to one very clear statement: The New Familiars are a powerful swell in a new wave of honest, roots-derived rock music sweeping the nation.

While performing in New York's Greenwich Village, Lewis was "discovered" by Terry Cashman and Tommy West (Jim Croce's producers ). Lewis' debut album on Lifesong Records was released worldwide. Lewis gained much experience touring with such artists as Ry Cooder, Neil Sedaka, and Al Stewart. On the strength of his live shows, McGehee went on to perform with many national acts such as John Prine, Robert Palmer, Talking Heads, Christopher Cross, and Christine McVie. Lewis also completed a 15-city tour as an opening act for Bruce Hornsby. McGehee has extensive experience in the recording studio as a session guitarist and vocalist, as well as composing, producing and performing on many regional radio and television commercials. In July of 1990, McGehee released a critically acclaimed recording of original songs on Headlight Records and Tapes. In 1991 he had three recording projects getting extensive airplay. 1994 marked the debut of a CD entitled "The Famous Unknowns" featuring Lewis with two other songwriters Michael Lille and Robbin Thompson. His aggressive approach to acoustic guitar has made him a prominent force in the Virginia music scene.

September 17; Jonathan Reiger, 5:30pm: Jonathan and Landon are each solo musicians who have come together for various shows over the last few years. Blending acoustic licks and subtle harmonies, their style ranges from syncopated upbeat grooves that will make you want to get up and dance to more soul-searching sounds like that of a calm rainy evening. Performing a mixture of popular covers as well as unique original music, they have appeared together on the Fox43 morning show, Beachstreet USA, and in various hotels and bars throughout the Hampton Roads area.

September 24; Mike Proffitt, 5:30pm: Mike Proffitt is a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He has been a professional performing musician in the Hampton Roads area for several years. He has released two CD's, "If You're Scared...Say You're Scared" (1996) and, "Versatility" (1999). The likes of Santana, James Taylor, and Eric Clapton are felt in the soulful array of Proffitt's material. These recordings have gained notoriety with local radio stations, and listeners alike, selling more than 3,500 units to date. His unique ability for writing around a "hook line" and expressing relationship minded lyrics, which people from all walks of life can relate to, has earned him awards like: 3rd Round Semi-Finalist in Musician Magazine's 1997 "Best Unsigned Band" competition; Winner of the 1997 Tidewater Entertainer's Association songwriter's competition; and was the Winner of the 1999 Meona award for Best Male Performer in the Hampton Roads area. Currently Mike is performing in the Hampton Roads area, where he was raised, and regionally in Richmond, Va. and Nags Head, N.C.
