Get Your Hands on Virginia History
Saturday, 08 August 2009 00:00

WMBG_HistoryIf your family loves history, you know that Williamsburg is the place to visit. The historic triangle will have you immersed in 18th century history within your first few steps.

Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown offer great family programs that engage adults and children alike. One of the programs is called “Hands on History.” In this daily program visitors have the chance to try out the daily chores and activities of the colonial times at the Benjamin Powell property.

Another great activity, and very unique, is the archaeological excavation at the Ravenscroft Site. Archaeologists and students will guide your family and you in a search for portions of the Main House. Hands-on activities are offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, between 10:00am - 11:30am.

If you’re looking for evening activities, African-American Music lessons are offered at the Great Hopes Plantation. Everyone can participate in the singing, dancing, and instrument playing at 6:00pm or 7:30pm. Learn about the music culture and its historic roots from Europe and Africa. This program is $12 for adults and $6 for children.

Enjoy.
