Go Ahead, Take the Plunge
Wednesday, 26 November 2008 00:00

Take the Polar Plunge and Experince Bone Chilling & Heartwarming Extremes.  This year's 17th Annual Polar Plunge will take place on February 7th, 2009 and will be held on the Atlantic Ocean beach between 6th and 9th Streets in Virginia Beach, VA.

Here's a brief history from polarplunge.com:

Back in '93, Virginia's Adventure Club East was looking for something fun and "extreme" to do in the middle of winter. Coincidentally, Special Olympics Virginia was looking for new fundraising avenues. Soon, the two pieces came together. That first plunge, held at the Clarion Hotel, featured all of about 34 plungers and still raised almost $8,000.

Last year, the 16th annual Polar Plunge raised more than $900,000 for Special Olympics Virginia.  And there were 3,500 plungers!  Through the efforts from supporters of this event, Special Olympics Virginia can  provide year-round training and sports programs for both children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout the state of Virginia.

This February help the Special Olympics reach their 1 million dollar plunge fundraising goal.  This is a fantastic and fun event.  Go ahead, sign up and take the plunge.  Click here for more information and details.
