It seems like all of Tidewater will be lit up this year. 100 Miles of Lights is illuminating the holidays with dozens of drive-through and walk-through holiday displays in Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Richmond, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach. I have some fond memories of walking around to see the different Christmas decorations every year, and I was very excited to discover that Newport News Park will be transformed into a magical, drive-through light display, starting on Thanksgiving night, and continuing through New Years.
In Norfolk, beginning on December 1, many families go to the Norfolk Botanical Gardens every year to hear "The Polar Express" read aloud, spend an afternoon doing crafts, and finish up the evening with a train ride through the Gardens, which will be decked out for the holidays. There will also be many special events in Colonial Williamsburg, and, my personal favorite, there will be the always delightful, and free, option of simply walking around downtown to gaze at all the different ornaments. And, ongoing until January 3, the Peninsula Fine Arts Center is showing and exhibit of artwork that depicts holiday scenes and festivities. It's certainly looking like a fun-filled holiday season, and I know I couldn't be more excited.
