Ironclad Chef at Mariners’ Museum
Saturday, 04 February 2012 11:34

Ironclad Chef event for March 10th at 6:30pm at The Mariners’ Museum.

Join us as we host the second annual Ironclad Chef competition.  Throughout the day, guests will witness demonstrations of two very unique cooking styles, that of a slave on a plantation and that of a Union cook on the deck of the USS Monitor.   The two competitors will discuss their menu choices, ingredients, and cooking styles, giving insight into a world of food preparation before refrigeration, electric ovens, and microwaves.  This portion of the Ironclad Chef competition is free for Members and included in Museum admission.

At 6:30, the judging will begin as local historians and food critics sit down to sample both menus and crown the 2012 Ironclad Chef.  Participants will join in as they enjoyhors d'oeuvres inspired by the 19th century menus of the competitors including Madeira Ham, Crab Cakes, Fricasseed Eggs, Le pudding á la orange, and Barbados Lemon Punch.  Cost is $40 in advance and The Mariners’ Museum is just minutes from Williamsburg and a short drive from Virginia Beach.
