It was 1969 when Jimmy Buffett went to Nashville to record his first albums, but he enjoyed little initial success in Music City. It wasn't until he went all the way down to Florida, for a show that was canceled before he arrived, that his career really took off. Upon discovering that the Miami venue at which he thought he would play had canceled his show, Buffett took a trip down to Key West, the town that was to inspire "Margaritaville." During his first stay in Key West, he wrote some of the songs that would make him famous, including "The Wino and I Know."
Forty years later, Jimmy Buffett is still going strong. In fact, he'll be in Charlottesville on November 17th, playing a concert at the John Paul Jones arena. The longevity of this artist's career is a testament to his widespread appeal and his true connection with the audience. There's something in the idea of relaxing on a beach, and escaping from the daily grind to somewhere lit by the warm sun that just about everyone can relate to. It's exciting to have such a big star playing so near to home - don't miss it.
