Kids Arts Palooza

Saturday January 16th, 2010 - 12 noon - 5 PM

Free and Open to the Public!

kids-paloozaJoin the fun and celebrate the arts as a family at the annual Kids Arts Palooza! All events and activities listed below are free and open to the public!

The Virginia Stage Company will take the Main Stage at 12:30 PM with their rendition of the classic fairytale, Hansel & Gretel's Grimm Tale. Suitable for children of all ages. Symphonicity will take the Main Stage at 3:15 PM with their popular 11th Annual Lollipop Concert. This year, Symphonicity will present It's Raining Music, featuring music about weather with guest appearance by local WAVY News 10 meteorologist Don Slater and professional narrator, Larry VanNostrand! Recommended for children in grades K-6. Sign language interpretation will be provided by Mindy Brown & Company for both performances. No reservation or ticket is required.

The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia will entertain children of all ages with a puppet-making activity based on the characters of Maurice Sendak's best-selling book, Where the Wild Things Are. Students from Salem High School's Visual and Performing Arts Academy's Vox Harmonia, National Dance Honor Society and the Steel Drum Band will also be on hand throughout the day for mini-performances and lots of interaction.

Other activities throughout the day will further entertain children, as well as adults. Visitors will delight in special performances by Krendl the Magician, hands-on children's art activities, strolling costumed characters, balloon sculptures, and much, much more! Visit the Sandler Center as the arts unite in a day filled with excitement, creativity, and lots of family fun!
