It's Autumn, and even though few of us work on farms any more, there's something of the harvest in the air, be it the change in the leaves, or the change in the wind, or maybe just the crisp, fresh sharpness of a Fall morning. But whatever it is, it's really put me in the mood for the outdoors and for fresh produce. Fortunately, Bush Neck Farm, right here in Williamsburg, is open for folks to come and pick their own apples, 8 to 5, six days a week, through the end of November.
Fall is my favorite time of year to be outside in Williamsburg. It's not hot out any more, it's not cold or rainy yet, and the air is fresh and clean. If you ask me, it's just about the perfect time to spend a relaxing day with your family, walking through the beautiful orchards at Bush Neck Farm and tasting fresh apples right off the tree. I love activities like this one - they put me in a mood of deep and profound mood of happy gratitude. When I'm outside, and I see the sweet and nourishing fruit that has sprung of its own force from the benevolence of the Earth, I can't help but feel that all is right with the world, and I encourage you to go and share this feeling with me. The Autumn is truly a spectacular time.
