Join us on MLK weekend for a few days of Service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We will kick off the weekend on Fri, 14 Jan preparing meals for Backpack For Kids at the Newport News Foodbank. On Sat the 15th, we will shift focus to the Hampton National Cemetary and collect over 6,000 wreaths along with other veterans in the area. The wreaths were laid last month in honor of our veterans who have sacrificed so much.
Timeline:
Friday, January 14-1:00pm-3:00pm--Backpack for Kids project at the Newport News Foodbank. 1st Floor, 9912 Hosier Street, Newport News, Virginia, 23601. Dress Warm!
Saturday, January 15 -9:00-11:00am--Pick up wreaths at the Hampton National Cemetary, Hampton VA vicinity of the Hampton University Campus.

Dr. King once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" This year President Obama is calling for all Americans to participate in MLK's vision of service by getting involved in their communities.
Event #1 Mission Continues Purple Heart Kid's Kitchen
When: Friday Jan 14th 2:15 - 6pm Where: Kids Cafe at Rosemont Boys and Girls Club What: We will be preparing and serving food to about 200 kids alongside wounded veterans from the Warrior Transition Unit. Also we will be tutoring homework, playing games, and giving general help at the club. Friday is a very busy day at this location. If you're interested I can use about 65 volunteers. When: Saturday Jan 15th 9am Where: Hampton National Cemetery What: We will be going back to Hampton National Cemetery to pick up all 7,000 of the wreaths we placed to honor our Veterans and packing them for storage. There is no limit to the number of volunteers that would like to come out for that event. It is estimated at about 3 hours. Event #3 Everybody can be Great, because everybody can SERVE.
When: Saturday Jan 15th 3pm Where: Church of the Holy Family, Va Beach What: The Mission Continues Purple Heart Prep Kitchen we will be cooking and serving food along with setting up and cleaning for a spaghetti dinner benefiting Vets House. Vets House is the only nonprofit organization in Hampton Roads that provides housing for homeless veterans of the US Armed Forces in order to facilitate their return to gainful, independent and productive lifestyles. There will be dinner and a raffle during the event and is sure to be a good time for a great cause. If you are interested I need 8 volunteers for this event. http://vetshouseinc.org/index.html
