Tribe Traditions at William and Mary

After over 300 years as a university, it's not surprising that William and Mary has racked up more than a few unique traditions that help to turn incoming students into a Tribe. Here are a few of the school's favorites:

yule_log-wmOpening Convocation: This is how students at William and Mary welcome the incoming freshmen class. Freshmen dress up and listen to a special guest speaker on the campus side of the Wren building. Then, they line up, cross through the building, and are greeted by cheers and high fives from a courtyard full of upperclassmen. After everything calms down, freshmen get to mingle over a picnic dinner and live music.

Yule Log: This tradition happens right around the holiday season. Students gather in the Wren courtyard to hear holiday music and-most importantly-hear President Reveley read "Twas the Night before Finals" or How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Most people have heard of aromatherapy, but have you ever wondered how it works? While the jury is still out on concrete evidence on medicinal value of the process, its adherents swear by the positive benefits of aromatherapy. Practitioners use different scents, created by essential oils and other fragrant materials, to produce different effects on someone inhaling the scents. The connection between your sense of smell and your emotions is pretty well established.
