Richmond Flying Squirrels Release 2011 Schedule

diamond-richmondComing off a phenomenally successful inaugural season in Richmond, VA, the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, are pleased to announce their 2011 Eastern League schedule. The Flying Squirrels second season will begin on Thursday, April 7th, at The Diamond with 2011 Opening Night against the New Britain Rock Cats (Minnesota Twins).

The Flying Squirrels will once again play a 142-game Eastern League schedule, affiliated with the Giants and representing the EL's Western Division. The Flying Squirrels will continue their new-found rivalry with the Bowie Baysox (Baltimore Orioles), as the Baysox will again represent the most-played opponent with 25 meetings during the 2011 regular season.

"We couldn't have been more pleased with the reaction from the community and the support the Flying Squirrels received during our inaugural season," said Flying Squirrels' Vice President & COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "However, we want our great fans to know that they haven't seen anything yet, and our efforts will only be bigger, better and more entertaining in 2011."

The Flying Squirrels will once again host an Independence Day Celebration at The Diamond, opening a four-game series against the Trenton Thunder (New York Yankees) on Monday, July 4th. After meeting the Thunder just three times at The Diamond in 2010, Squirrels fans will have eight chances to see the Yankees' prospects as Richmond will host Trenton at The Diamond in a pair of four-game series in 2011 (April 25 - 28, July 4 - 7).

The Squirrels will also play an increased schedule against the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals), matching up with Harrisburg 21 times in 2011 as opposed to just 10 meetings in 2011.
