Last weekend I stopped by Sal's by Victor for a specialty pizza. Unlike most Williamsburg locals and students, I had never been to Sal's before the fire last year. So to get the whole perspective on the new and improved restaurant, I brought along a friend who had been dining at Sal's since he first arrived at William and Mary.
Not much has changed on the inside of Sal's, but the real test would be in the food. We decided to go with one of the specialty pizzas-the Campagnola. To start, however, we tried the house salad (my only disappointment of the night was that there was no Caesar salad-for me, this is an Italian restaurant staple). The pizza came out loaded with fresh tomato, spinach, broccoli, cheese and grilled chicken-all fresh and all delicious. The crust was also thick, crispy and bready, which is my favorite kind.
The final verdict? Both the Sal's newcomer and regular alike agreed that the fresh toppings, perfect crust and gooey cheese all combined to make Sal's pizza the best we've had in Williamsburg. We can't wait to stop back to try another one of their specialties!
