Take It Down a Notch on the Ice and Snow
Monday, 21 December 2009 00:00

icesnowContributed by WR Murphy

The roads are a little bit snowy today, and although it has practically melted away, it might snow again, and since many of us are traveling for the holidays, I wanted to share a few tips on how to drive in our winter wonderland.

First, don't be in a hurry. I recommend leaving at least ten or fifteen minutes longer than you think you'll need for a given trip. Second, do everything slowly, easily, and early. Here's what I mean: when you're coming up to an intersection, let up on the gas early, brake early, signal your turn early, and don't make any sudden movements.

Also, please remember that you need a lot more space in between cars when the roads are wet or icy. Leave at least twice as much space between you and the car in front of you as you would on dry roads, and don't be afraid to drive a few miles an hour under the speed limit and hang out in the right lane. Be safe out there, and happy holidays!
