Teach Your Kids How to Get A Fresh Start
Wednesday, 27 January 2010 00:00

2010-KidsContributed by Tanya Tringali

The start of a new year can be just as exciting for kids, as it is for adults. After-all, a new year is a fresh start. It's a chance to do things differently and a way to bring families together in the hope of what may come. What kid doesn't want to be a part of that? Well they will if you make it fun. Below you will find 5 ways to get you started and I'm sure they will only lead to bigger and better ideas.

1. Have a goal setting party. Let everyone in the family choose 3 individual goals and then together, come up with three family goals for the year. Keep the goals simple and reachable to start. It could lead to a lifetime of achievements.

2. Do some spring cleaning in the winter. Call it something fun, like Frosty Clean-up Day or Dust Free Day. Make a game out of it. Have the kids collect pieces of candy for every task completed and at the end decorate cookies or cupcakes with their collection.

3. Start a new tradition. Kids love traditions. Maybe you could watch home movies and at when you're done, shoot some new footage for next year's viewing.

4. Take a trip. Now I'm not talking a vacation here, just find a local place that you have never been to before. Or maybe one that you haven't visited in awhile. If it's outside, pack a thermos of hot chocolate or hot apple cider, along with some holiday cookies. A great place in Williamsburg is C.W. (Colonial Williamsburg). It's fun to walk around and discover little places of interest. And there's plenty of places to have a picnic.

5. Do something for others. With the Holidays being so busy, sometimes the intentions of giving to others gets lost. This is a great time, as a family, to give back and pay it forward.

Start off the new year like this and how could it go wrong?!
