The Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Rocks Virginia Beach with the Black Crowes
Wednesday, 02 September 2009 00:00

rockandrollThe 9th annual Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon starts at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, runs through the scenic Virginia Beach oceanfront and finishes on the spectacular oceanfront boardwalk. Participants will be treated to 14 stages along the 13.1-mile course, featuring 20 local bands as well as 16 local high school cheerleading squads spaced approximately every mile.

At the finish line, participants and spectators can munch on tasty treats and sip cold beer while they lounge on the sand listening to the finish line feature bands. Later that evening, a headline act will thrill the crowd at the post-race concert on the sand at the 5th Street Beach Stage.

This year none other than the Black Crowes will headline at the post-race concert. In conjunction with the Verizon Wireless American Music Festival, more than 20,000 runners, walkers and music fans from around the world will celebrate their race-day accomplishments at the oceanfront party.

Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with an opening performance at 6:30 p.m. by the Truth & Salvage Co. Concert festivities at the 5th Street Beach Stage will feature a special half marathon awards ceremony at 7:45 p.m. followed by The Black Crowes at 8:45 p.m.

Recognized by Rolling Stones Magazine readers as the "Best New American Band" the Black Crowes have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.
