Williamsburg, Virginia is a beautiful town. I've been living here for quite a few years now, but every spring I am still astounded by how beautiful the place is. I really do think that spring is the best time to visit Williamsburg: the tourist season hasn't quite picked up to full steam yet, the weather is still pleasantly cool in the morning, the trees are budding and the flowers are blooming. When I walk through the streets of Colonial Williamsburg on a Saturday morning in April, I can understand why the Governor's Palace was built there.
One thing Williamsburg has a lot of is gardens. There are beautiful flower gardens all over Colonial Williamsburg and the downtown area, and I think these are best in the spring. They seem so fresh and beautiful during the spring months, and the weather really is perfect for enjoying them.
My ideal day in Williamsburg is this: on a morning in April or May, get up early, but not too early, go for a long walk through the colonial stretch of town, enjoying the smells and sounds of spring, then stop at Aromas for lunch and a glass of wine. I think if it were always spring in Williamsburg, I would do exactly that every single day.
