The Boeing ScanEagle Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) carries an optical or infra-red camera to record and relay important information. Sailors launch the ScanEagle from a small catapult, and recover it by using a GPS system that guides the aircraft to a long retrieving pole. The UAV's wingspan is 10.2 feet and the length is 4.5 feet. Its maximum horizontal speed is 80 knots and it can fly as high as 19,500 feet. The exhibit also features a video by Defense Media Activity (DMA), which features footage of Captain Phillips and USS Bainbridge's rescue efforts that has not been made available to the general public until now. In addition, the modern piracy exhibit features graphics and videos that detail the coordinated efforts of the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to protect our ships, sailors and marine natural resources from harm on the high seas. Piracy Today: Modern Terror on the High Seas is included in the ticket price for Real Pirates, which also includes regular admission to Nauticus. Real Pirates and Piracy Today: Modern Terror on the High Seas will be on display in the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center November 21, 2009, through April 4, 2010. Admission is $18.95 for adults, $14.95 for children ages 4 - 12 and free for three and under. Nauticus members admission is $12.95. Group rates are available for groups of 15 and over. The Hampton Roads Naval Museum introduces visitors to over 233 years of U.S. Naval history in Hampton Roads, Virginia. One of 12 officially operated U.S. Navy museums, reporting to the Naval History and Heritage Command, the museum houses a rich collection of authentic uniforms, weaponry, underwater artifacts, detailed ship models and artwork.
