Composer Robert Kapilow brings his creativity to one of the bestselling books of all time. Dr. Seuss's story of Sam-I-Am's love for green eggs and ham and his attempts to convince a neighbor to try some is an everlasting treat for children. Plus find out what happens when a young boy finds he can only communicate through special effects and percussion in the musical tale of Gerald McBoing-Boing.

An Afternoon at the Museum

Sunday, March 6, 2011 3PM
Pre-Concert Activities 2PM

What could a funny-looking gnome, an old Italian castle, and a ballet of baby chicks possibly have in common? They're all famous pictures turned into music by Modest Mussorgsky! More than 100 years ago, the famous Russian composer created Pictures at an Exhibition, inspired by paintings and drawings by one of his dearest friends. Now, the VSO helps you re-create these pictures in your imagination by playing excerpts of Mussorgsky's work arranged for orchestra. Don't miss this unique concert experience that will have everyone in the family "seeing" music through the mind's eye.

The Classical Clown

Sunday, April 3, 2011 3PM
Pre-Concert Activities 2PM

What happens when a clown takes the stage and battles the conductor for control of the orchestra? Nothing short of a symphonic showdown set to the usually serious sounds of Beethoven, Grieg, Britten and Stravinsky. By the time it's over, the mime conducts, the conductor becomes a mime, and even the musicians get into the act as Dan Kamin draws everyone into this merry Comedy Concerto.
