Virginia's Festival for the Independent-Minded
Saturday, 21 March 2009 00:00

jamesriverfilmfestival.pngThe 16th annual James River Film Festival, Virginia's Festival for the Independent-minded, will be held April 12-19, 2009 in Richmond.  A simultaneous celebration and examination of independent cinema, the James River Film Festival is produced by the Richmond Moving Image Co-op and is co-sponsored by WRIR 97.3 LPFM, the Virginia Film Office, the Virginia Production Alliance and Friends of the Festival.

The James River Film Festival is a celebration of independent film, video and animation. Each April the festival brings nationally and internationally-known independent filmmakers to Richmond to screen and discuss their work.  Held annually since 1994, the festival has staged more than 270 workshops, screenings, and seminars. In addition, the program includes retrospectives; film performances with live, original music; and a juried competition of short films.

Festival passes are $40 and are good for all festival events (except Saturday, April 18's Gallery 5 show).   Passes will be available for advance purchase on March 31 at Fan Video and Chop Suey Books. Tickets for individual films/events are only available at the door, 30 minutes before each screening.

For more information call (804) 232-7642 or (804) 355-6537.
