 In the southern region of Campania in Italy hails a red wine definitely worthy of trying. This Italian red wine is called Taurasi and it's made from the Aglianico grape. Another cool fact for you: not only does Taurasi wine hail from this region but it is also the homeland of one of Williamsburg's favorite chefs, Victor Minichiello, owner of Sal's by Victor.
Taurasi wines are full bodied with a dry and balanced taste. They have a deep ruby-red color. Taurasi has a very nice refinement but it also a powerful wine. The fruit flavors are primarily black raspberries, plums and sometimes hints of dark cherries. Most versions let the oak flavors come thru with a nuance of coffee and smoky notes. Taurasi wine is usually aged for at least 4 years. Taurasi matches well with hearty foods and can be excellent with roasted or braised meats and pasta dishes. Campania is also the birthplace and home of pizza which goes well with Taurasi; it's an excellent combination. They are the perfect match to Sal's by Victor's delicious Italian cuisine.
