Without a Valentine on Valentine's Day?
Saturday, 30 January 2010 00:00

Contributed by Diana Fakhouri

valentine-girlsWading through January and February's insufferable Valentine's décor makes singles everywhere want to crawl in a hole, at least until February 15 rolls around. If you're among the date-less this year, don't fret. As many of your attached friends can attest, Valentine's can be even worse for those with a date! The expectations and hype commercialization creates can render the big day anti-climactic, even for those in a seemingly perfect relationship. So stop worrying, grab some single ladies, and have FUN!

1) Wine tour, anyone? Head out with your best friends - guys or girls - to take a winery or brewery tour. Hampton Roads offers Williamsburg Winery & New Kent Winery, as well as Williamsburg AleWerks, so choose your favorite libations and spend the day with friends you love!

2) Spa day! Indulge yourself with a relaxing treat, like a massage, facial, or mani-pedi. Since you don't have to lavish gifts on your significant other (that they probably won't appreciate, anyway), give yourself what you really want!

3) Plan a weekend getaway with fellow female singles and do all the fun things a boyfriend would never agree to - see a musical, go shopping, and hit up some nightclubs! Norfolk and Richmond are great destinations that won't break the bank on gas, so start planning a weekend you'll truly enjoy!

4) Throw your own V-Day bash and invite everyone. Party planning and hosting will make you excited for Valentine's, rather than dreading it. Pull out all the stops, and your friends will thank you - a single person! shocking! - for making their night such a success!
